Description

John Coltrane is one of the most influential jazz musicians of all time. He was a saxophonist, composer, and leader of jazz ensembles. Coltrane was born in Hamlet, North Carolina, in 1926. He began playing the saxophone at a young age and soon became one of the most talented saxophonists in the country. In the 1950s, Coltrane formed his own quartet, which became one of the most important jazz ensembles of its time. Coltrane was known for his experimental improvisations, which were often long and complex. He was also a master of arrangement, frequently using intricate harmonies and rhythms. Coltrane continued recording and touring throughout the 1960s. His music became increasingly experimental and spiritual. He was one of the first jazz musicians to experiment with Indian music and spiritual practices.

Soultrane is a studio album by John Coltrane, released in 1958 on Prestige Records. It was recorded at Rudy Van Gelder's studio three days after the session for Miles Davis' album Milestones. The album showcases Coltrane's "sheets of sound" style from the late 1950s. It includes a version of the ballad "I Want to Talk About You", as well as compositions by Tadd Dameron, Fred Lacey, and a song from the musical Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. The album closes with a fast version of Irving Berlin's "Ru**ian Lullaby".

The album contains 5 tracks.

Side A:
  • A1. Good Bait
  • A2. I Want To Talk To You
Side B:
  • B1. You Say You Care
  • B2. Theme For Ernie
  • B3. Ru**ian Lullaby
