Massive Attack are an English collective from Bristol, formed in 1988 by Robert “3D” Del Naja, Grant “Daddy G” Marshall, Adrian “Tricky” Thaws and Andrew “Mushroom” Vowles; today the group consists of Del Naja and Marshall. They became pioneers of trip hop thanks to albums such as Blue Lines and Mezzanine, are known for hits like “Unfinished Sympathy” and “Teardrop”, collaborated with numerous vocalists (Horace Andy, Shara Nelson, Elizabeth Fraser, etc.), received several music awards, and are recognized for supporting political, human rights, and environmental initiatives.

Blue Lines is the debut studio album by Massive Attack, released on 8 April 1991 on the Wild Bunch and Virgin labels. The recording, led by Del Naja, Marshall, Tricky and Vowles with co-producer Jonny Dollar, blended hip hop elements (breakbeats, sampling, rapping) with dub, soul, reggae, and electronic music, and is generally considered the first album of the “trip hop” genre. The record features vocals by Shara Nelson and Horace Andy, received wide critical acclaim (included in best album lists by Rolling Stone, Q, and others), and was remastered and reissued on 19 November 2012.
