Description

Arturo Benedetti Michelangelo was an Italian classical pianist. He was born near Brescia, Italy on January 5, 1920. His father, a count and barrister by profession, was also a musician and composer and began teaching music to Benedetti Michelangelo when the latter was less than four years old. At the age of 14, he graduated from the Milan Conservatory with honors. In May 1938, after attending the Ysa e International Festival in Brussels, Michelangelo began his international career, where he took seventh place. The following year, he won the first prize at the International Music Competition in Geneva, where he was hailed as a "new Liszt" by pianist Alfred Corto, a member of the jury headed by Ignatius Jan Paderewski. After the victory, Michelangelo received a teaching position at the Martini Conservatory in Bologna, Italy.

The Wiener Symphoniker is one of Europe's most prestigious orchestras, boasting 128 musicians. His repertoire includes the great romantic works of Brahms, Bruckner, Mahler and Richard Strauss. The orchestra is the cultural ambassador of Vienna and the main concert orchestra of the city.
