Bill Evans (William John Evans, 1929–1980) was an American jazz pianist and composer, one of the most influential musicians in modern jazz. His innovative approach to harmony, refined chord structures, and melodic lines became a benchmark for generations of jazz pianists. He gained worldwide recognition as a member of Miles Davis's sextet, recording the album Kind of Blue, and later formed his own trio, which is regarded as one of the most important ensembles in 20th-century jazz.
Trio 64 is a studio album by Bill Evans, released in 1964. It marked the first and only recording with bassist Gary Peacock and the final one with drummer Paul Motian as part of the pianist’s trio. The record is distinguished by the intuitive musical interplay of the musicians and the subtle collective sound, praised by critics as one of the most sensitive and harmonious in Evans’s work.
