Oscar Peterson is a Canadian jazz pianist, composer, trio leader, and music educator. He is considered one of the greatest jazz virtuoso pianists. His first recordings were released in Canada in the mid-1940s. In 1950, Peterson moved to New York City, where he quickly became one of the most popular and well-known jazz pianists. He toured all over the world, recorded with the most famous jazz musicians and received many awards. Peterson was known for his phenomenal technique, improvisational abilities, and the wide range of musical styles he covered. He was a master of such genres as bebop, swing, Latin jazz and classical music. His influence on jazz was enormous. He was one of the first pianists to use electric pianos in jazz, and his improvisations were revolutionary. Peterson was also one of the first jazz musicians to become real stars in show business.
