Description

Renie Cares (Ukr: Реня турбується, "Renya worries") is a Ukrainian indie-rock band consisting of vocalist Iryna Panchuk and producer Oleksandr Musevych (also a member of the band Sheetel). The name is Iryna's alter-ego, where "Renie" is one of the forms of her name. The band gained popularity in 2021-2022 thanks to the success of the tracks "Yakby" ("If Only") and "Zaratustra" on Spotify. Their style is characterized as "mournful indie-rock" with philosophical lyrics and atmospheric music. Iryna Panchuk's vocal style is compared to "Odyn v kanoe" and Vivienne Mort, while instrumentally the band draws inspiration from British and American indie-rock (such as Daughter and The National).

"Lehka nesterpnist buttia" ("Light Unbearableness of Being") is the band's debut album, released on November 3, 2023. The title is a direct reference to Milan Kundera's novel "The Unbearable Lightness of Being," which was the main inspiration for the album's concept. The album explores Ukrainian existentialism in the context of the full-scale invasion, drawing parallels between the events of the Prague Spring of 1968 (described by Kundera) and the modern war in Ukraine. The lyrics touch on themes of the absurdity of life, the search for meaning, losses in war (the song "Syna" - "Son's"), and disappointment. Musically, the album combines indie-rock with post-rock culminations and includes three spoken-word interludes ("Lehka," "Nesterpnist," "Buttia") that quote another of Kundera's novels, "Identity."

The album contains 12 tracks.
