Rammstein, a German band founded in Berlin in 1994, pioneered the Neue Deutsche Härte (“new German hardcore”) genre, combining industrial metal with elements of electronic music, hard rock, and theatrical shows. The band's style is characterized by heavy riffs, militaristic aesthetics, and the expressive delivery of vocalist Till Lindemann. A characteristic feature of Rammstein is its spectacular stage performances with lots of pyrotechnics. Despite the lyrics being exclusively in German, the band has gained worldwide popularity, including in the United States, and has sold over 35 million records worldwide. Their music is often described as “brute force,” and the band members themselves called their style “Tanzmetall” – dance metal.

Herzeleid is the debut studio album by Rammstein, released on September 24, 1995. The album immediately defined the band's sound: aggressive guitar parts, machine-like rhythms, and themes of corporeality, death, and eroticism. The cover caused controversy due to the image of naked band members against a giant flower – criticized for allegedly alluding to the idea of a “dominant race,” which later forced the band to change the design. Heirate Mich and Rammstein's songs were featured in David Lynch's movie Highway to Nowhere, which helped to increase the band's recognition in the United States. Over the years, Herzeleid has become a cult debut in heavy music and has been reissued several times, including on the 20th and 25th anniversaries of its release.
